New Remixes of “Get Out Of Your Own Way” Coming Friday

Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2018-01-24)

On Friday, January 26, 2018, we are told U2 will release new remixes of “Get Out of Your Own Way”. The remixes are being done by Afrojack. Afrojack, is a Dutch DJ, record producer and remixer, and runs his own label Wall Recordings, and has worked with artists including David Guetta, Madonna, Beyonce and Pitbull. In a 2014 interview Afrojack first mentions aspirations to work with u2 someday saying, “With U2, I’d want to make the most beautiful song in the world. They could just do that by themselves, but I’d love to be a part of it.”

Two versions of the Afrojack mix exist, a “Afrojack Remix Radio Edit” at 04:06 in length, and an “Afrojack Remix Extended” at 05:08 in length. The songs are being circulated with two different versions of the remix of the song by Switch, the previously released version at 03:41 in length and a longer version at 06:38. The shorter Switch remix was released as a single to streaming sites and to digital storefronts on December 27, 2017. The longer mix had not previously been released. The mixes are currently being shared in digital promo formats, and no physical promotional CD is available.

At this time we are unsure if all four remixes will be commercially released or if just the Afrojack remix will be released commercially on Friday.

The remixes are released in conjunction with U2 appearing on the Grammy Awards on Sunday, January 28, 2018. The band are expected to perform “Get Out of Your Own Way” on the Awards ceremony, and the song will be pushed to Hot AC (Adult Contemporary) Radio the following day on January 29, 2018. The song had previously been pushed to AAA (Adult album alternative) Radio (December 4, 2017) and Modern Rock Radio (January 16, 2017) in the United States, and in various European markets (Poland on November 2, 2017 and Italy on December 8, 2017 for instance, as well as being featured as a BBC track of the week in early November). U2 also released a video for the song last week. We are told another video is coming for the song as well and will launch in conjunction with the Grammy Awards appearance.

Update: We are told that the mix released on Friday will be one of the Afrojack mixes, and that there will be other mixes coming in the near future. The song being released on Friday will be the 04:07 edit of the Afrojack Remix and it will be labeled simply as “Afrojack Remix”. The song will be available on digital store fronts such as iTunes, as well as streaming services.

Our lyrics entries for these new remixes are below, when we confirm what contents are being released on Friday we will update the discography entry for the single:

Below is the cover of this release, like the Switch release before it, it uses a blue-black pattern as used in other artwork, with the name of the remix on the front.
