"The Dream is Over" (1980)

Demo Song

Background Information

“The Dream is Over” is an early U2 song, likely developed in early 1980. Before that time the song was known by an earlier name, “The King’s New Clothes”. The transition between the two titles took place in late 1979, with a first appearance in December of that year. It was likely recorded by U2 in a demo session at Windmill Lane in February 1980.

We have taken an in depth look at U2’s pre-Island Records demo sessions in two parts. Part One dealt with 1978 – February 1979. Part Two dealt with the latter part of 1979 until early 1980. “The Dream is Over” is discussed in Part Two.
