Demo Song

Background Information

“The Executioner’s Song” was a working title developed while recording The Joshua Tree.

“The Executioner’s Song” was an early working title for “Exit,” and very little is known about it other than the early title which was revealed in an early issue of Propaganda. We look at the early titles for The Joshua Tree in more detail in our article “The Eejit, 3-D Funk and Womanfish: The Joshua Tree Demo Recordings“. “Exit” had been partially inspired by Norman Mailer’s novel The Executioner’s Song, and bore the name of the novel during the development of the song.
