Bono Co-Writes Garrix’s “Weightless”
Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2025-04-16)
Martin Garrix has teamed up with Arijit for a second single, released on April 11, called “Weightless”. Like their earlier song, “Angels for Each Other”, released in March, Bono is once again listed with a writing credit on the song. The credits for writing are Arijit Singh, Benson Boone, Giorgio Tuinfort, JUNO, Martijn Garritsen, Paul David Hewson and Simon Edmund Carmody. The song was released as a digital single on streaming and digital store fronts on Friday, April 11. An accompanying video was also released via YouTube.
The release notes share: “Today, multiplatinum selling, chart topping Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix and the global music sensation from India, the most followed artist in the world on Spotify, Arijit Singh teamed up to release new single “Weightless” via Garrix’s label STMPD RCRDS. On ‘Weightless’ Garrix has created a hypnotizing, flowing beat set against Arijit Singh’s exceptional vocal talent. The accompanying music video directed by Bijoy Shetty illustrates a message of teamwork and trust in community; how we are weightless together. ‘Weightless’ marks the second release from the duo, as ‘Angels for Each Other’ was released last month. The song marked the first time Garrix ever sang on his own track. Garrix & Singh performed the song live at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, later releasing a concert video of the performance.”
The song is available in high resolution audio, as well as in a Dolby Atmos mix. The song was also delivered to radio on April 11.
Like the earlier song, “Angels for Each Other”, Garrix sings on this new song, coming in for a couple of verses at the end of the song. Otherwise Arijit Singh handles the bulk of the vocals, singing in Hindi for most of the track.
The song is 03:42 in length on music services. The video on YouTube has an additional look at the making of the track with Garrix and Singh in studio at the end, and the full video is 05:29.
Garrix previously released “We Are the People” with Bono and The Edge, released for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament held in 2021. Garrix also collaborated with U2 as a producer, as well as mixing and mastering “Your Song Saved My Life” for the Sing 2 soundtrack. Simon Carmody who is also listed as a co-writer with Bono, is a longtime collaborator with Bono on song lyrics. Carmody has worked on “We Are the People” (Martin Garrix with Bono and The Edge), “Where the Shadows Fall” (Willie Nelson), “Streets of Surrender (S.O.S.)” (Zucchero), “I Am the Blues” (Johnny Hallyday), “Sugar Daddy” (Tom Jones), “Drinkin’ in the Day” (Ronnie Drew) and “The Ballad of Ronnie Drew” (U2 and many others) and “I Don’t Wanna See You Smile” (U2).
