Bono’s Surrender Japan release, Accessing Apple TV+ and more

Along with his Stories of Surrender film debuting in May on Apple TV+, Bono is releasing new versions of his autobiography.
First up we have information on the long awaited Japan translation of his book. The translation by Kenji Kurashina and Yayoi Sato will arrive on May 21, 2025, and will be published by Hayakawa Shobo. ISBN for this version is 9784152104304 and the book is appearing for pre-order now. This is the full version of the Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story book.
Another recent translation to Korean is published by Sangsang, and carries the ISBN 9791193166697. Like the Japanese translation, this one is the full version of Bono’s book. It was translated by Ki-bin Hong.
We are also expecting there will be a version via Horizon in Taiwan, but we do not yet have further information about that version.

There will be a new English version of Bono’s book as well. As is typical in the publishing industry, a hard cover release is typically followed by a soft cover release in the months / years that follow. With Bono’s book it is being retitled Stories of Surrender and will be an abridged version of his book, with some material removed, and reorganized to follow the film a little closer. It also receives a new cover, which matches the posters for the film itself, and a new introduction written by Bono will also be included.
Three editions are being released that we are aware of, all in English.

One thing of note about the film cover vs the book cover? In Bono’s handwriting above his head on the wall, “the confessional” can be seen on the book cover.
For those interested in the film, but without Apple TV+ we have been seeing some questions about how to access. You do not need an Apple TV physical device to access this title. Apple TV+ is Apple’s TV subscription service and is available through most smart TVs, as well as devices such as Roku. It can be accessed via Apple’s site as well direct via a browser. It is a subscription based service, meaning you do have to sign up for an account. But if you visit Apple, you will often see a 7 day free trial offered. If you do go the route of the free trial, please don’t forget to cancel if you aren’t interested in the service as charges will start after the seven day period ends. (Offers may differ in different countries.)
The film debuts on May 30 on Apple TV+. Two versions will be available, a traditional version for viewing on flat screens such as a TV, and an Immersive version to watch on Apple Vision Pro. The content will be the same, but the immersive version will offer additional viewpoints and effects.
