Edge appears on 5 Seconds of Summer’s song, “Best Years”

Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2020-03-26)

Tomorrow, March 27, 2020, see the band 5 Seconds of Summer releasing their new album CALM and it can now be revealed that The Edge from U2 is adding his guitar to the new song, “Best Years”. We previously shared that the Edge would be on the album.

The song is track seven on the new album, runs 3:10 in length, and is one of the songs that was composed with producer Ryan Tedder, who has worked with U2 on Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. The song was not part of the preview tracks for the album, and the full version will only be released when the album is available.

5 Seconds of Summer are signed to Interscope Records. The band formed as teenagers in Australia in 2011, and are known for their hit “Youngblood.” The album title, CALM is an amalgamation of their names, Calum, Ashton, Luke and Michael.

The new album CALM also features guitar by Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello on the song “Teeth,” a song which samples New Order’s “Blue Monday” and features Ryan Tedder on backing vocals.

A short snippet of the song “Best Years” can be heard in the album trailer for CALM posted below:

Although the Edge has worked on many solo projects over the years, the last new songs that were released with Edge as a solo artist were the songs he composed with Paul Chavez for the performance Cold Dream Colour in 2012.

A remix of “Best Years” is also coming out today via the Calm App. The band are releasing a four track EP today via the relaxation and meditation app. The remix of “Best Years” which will feature on that app, is being remixed by guitarist Luke Hemmings in collaboration with producer Matt Pauling. We’ll have discography updates for both the album and the remix EP later today.
