Questions and Answers
Can I watch this at home?
No. This film will be exclusively shown at Sphere in Las Vegas, at least initially. At this time there will be no other way to watch the film. “Showing exclusively at Sphere” is used in the press release.
When does it open?
The film opens September 5, 2024.
Subscribers to U2.com have an opportunity to enter a contest for a special first look screening of the film on September 3, two days prior to the opening. The details are available on U2.com to enter this contest.
How long is the film?
The film is listed as being 72 minutes in length. The film will start 45 minutes after the admission time on the ticket, which is likely time alotted to the Sphere experience, which is also seen ahead of Postcards from Earth.
Will it be a full show?
The Sphere shows ran around 2 hours in length. The film is 72 minutes, so it looks like it will be less than a full show. At the stated time, it is likely the film will include 13-14 songs, just over half of a show. (Twelve of the songs performed are from Achtung Baby and footage from the trailer suggests we will see “Zoo Station”, “Beautiful Day” and “Where the Streets Have No Name”.)
What concerts were filmed?
The shows on February 23 and 24, and the show on March 1 were filmed for this movie. “V-U2 is the first film ever to be shot entirely with Big Sky, the groundbreaking ultra-high-resolution camera system developed by Sphere Entertainment.. To create this larger-than-life concert film, a number of Big Sky cameras captured the band at extraordinary scale, sharpness, and clarity.” These shows are detailed here:
Who is directing the film?
The Edge and Morleigh Steinberg are directing the film, and it is being produced by The Edge, Bono, Adam Clayton and Alan Moloney in collaboration with Sphere entertainment. Stefaan “Smasher” Desmedt is listed as associate director. Music production is by Jacknife Lee and Joe O’Herlihy. Director of photography is Sphere Studios’ Andrew Shulkind.
How much will tickets cost?
Tickets were announced to start at $100 US. The ticket prices were announced to be inclusive of all fees.
IMAGE: Pre-Sale Pricing for October 5 (Saturday Night Showing)
Initially when the pre-sale started for U2.com, the all in pricing was not set up for all shows. This made it look like there were two sets of pricing ($79 – 169 and $100 – 205) but this was an error. The tickets are now priced all in, and the total includes all fees. The graphic above shows the price ranges when the pre-sale opened for U2.com members, for a Saturday night show, October 5, 2024. These are the all-in prices, including fees, and should be similar for all shows.
For comparison, the other film at Sphere, Postcards from Earth has been showing for 11 months now, and charges prices between $114 and $279 for entrance.
When can I buy tickets?
U2.Com subscribers can access presale tickets starting at 10am Pacific on Thursday August 22 for 23 hours. After that time, tickets will be available to the general public starting at 10am Pacific on Friday August 23.
There is also a Venue pre-sale which takes place on Thursday August 22 starting at noon Pacific. It too ends at 9am Pacific on Friday ahead of the general sales.
Is this a one time thing?
No, the film will open on September 5, and there are showings planned at least to the end of October based on the current schedule. Expect that the film may be extended beyond that if it is successful.
The film is listed with one showing each day on the days that it is showing. The film shows at different times during the day. The final date currently available for sale is October 31, 2024.
Anything else I should know?
From the Sphere website: “This event is an immersive experience with various elements, including seat haptics, movement sensations, flashing lights, intense lighting, visual effects, and loud noises. Such elements may aggravate certain medical or physical conditions, and guests should take into consideration if they have a history of discomfort or physical symptoms when experiencing these elements.” They also list that the film is intended for guests six years of age and older.
