Yes there was silence
Yes there was no people here
Yes I walk through the streets of Dublin
and no one was near.

We all wait for the science
To make everything clear
Now I walk down the streets of London-town
It seems like everyone’s disappeared.

Oh. No one to reach
But I can ring
You can’t touch.
But you can, you can sing…
Across rooftops
Sing down the phone
Sing and promise me you won’t stop
Sing your love be known
Oh let your love be known.

Everybody talking about isolation Sure Listening
Everybody trying not to feel the fear Oh ohh
Time’s got me worried about my occupation, damn.
I can’t buy tissue for my tears, damn.

And maybe i said the wrong thing no you didn’t no you didn’t no you didn’t no
Yes I made you smile yes you did brother.

Everybody talk about social distancing
But we just want to go in a crowd
and just dance dance
away the pain. away the pain.

You can’t touch
but you can, you can sing
Across rooftops.
Oh ho sing.
Sing to me down the phone oh oh oh
Sing and promise me you won’t stop
Sing and you’re never alone

And again
Sing as an act of resistance. c’mon
Sing though your heart is overthrown
Sing, when you sing there is no distance
So let your love be known
Oh let your love be known.

Though your heart is overthrown
Let your love be known
Oh let your love be known.

Though your heart is overthrown.
Let your love show.

Use this time to be creative and collaborate remotely to solve problems…A healthy body also means a healthy mind…”

The original version of the song, performed by Bono in his home in Dublin was posted a few days ago. The initial post on U2’s social media channels said “For the Italians who inspired it… for the Irish…for ANYONE who this St. Patrick’s day is in a tight spot and still singing. For the doctors, nurses, carers on the front line, it’s you we’re singing to. Bono” We’ve embedded this version below. At the time Bono suggested the song was called “Let Your Love Be Known.”

will.i.am appearing on Good Morning Britain spoke about the song this morning. “Bono wrote the song. He put it on a thread I’m on – there is a group thread – before he put it on Instagram her shared it with us on the group thread of his son playing piano and Bono singing these beautiful words about singing from rooftops, inspired by the citizens of Italy in quarantine.”

will.i.am was inspired to add his own verse, and send it back to Bono on this thread of musicians. They then discussed creating something that people at home could sing along with. In the broadcast will.i.am confirmed the title is #Sing4Life.
