Dolby Atmos Format

Sorted by Title

Dolby Atmos debuted in 2012, first in film, and later in audio releases. The surround technology by Dolby laboratories not only surrounds the listener on all sides, but it also adds a height element, so the listener can hear sounds all around them, including above and below them. While the focus has been on cinemas and films, more recently music is being mixed to take advantage of the format. R.E.M.‘s anniversary reissue of Automatic for the People was one of the first major releases on the format in 2017. The system does not necessarily require an expensive sound system. And many smartphones have implemented technology to use the Atmos system through headphone technology.

For those who were able to visit the theatre at Zoo Station in Las Vegas, the films being presented there were being shown with Dolby Atmos sound. There are physical formats out there that support Dolby Atmos on Blu-ray, but to date U2’s output in Atmos has been purely digital. The streaming services presenting Dolby Atmos sound are presenting a lossy sound to keep file sizes smaller, Blu-ray Atmos is a higher resolution audio than these streaming services provide.

Below you can find the songs featuring U2 to date which are available in Dolby Atmos. The format is available on Apple Music, Tidal and Amazon streaming services. If you are aware of any releases we’ve missed let us know and we will add them in. (This is an update of an early article, which we are no longer maintaining.)

U2 Audio Tracks:

U2’s first release using Dolby Atmos was the single “Your Song Saved My Life”, released on the soundtrack of the film Sing 2. The technology was also used for the full length version of Songs of Surrender (2023). In early 2024, U2 released a new master of Achtung Baby in Dolby Atmos and have announced that the other albums in their catalog are being worked on. Later that year, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and the shadow album, How to Assemble an Atomic Bomb were both released with an Atmos mix. The single “Atomic City” and the EP “Zoo TV Live” have also both been released in Atmos format. Below you will find a list of the songs and the mixes of these songs that have been released in the Atmos format. The link will take you through to the lyrics section of the page where you can find out information about individual releases.

Solo Audio Tracks:

U2 appearing on other artists tracks has been happening since they formed the band. Many of those appearances are starting to show up on Atmos as well. Below is a list of Atmos audio mixes known to us of these U2 solo appearances. Like the section above, clicking on the title will take you through to the lyric section. Mostly newer releases here, and songs for which there has been a recent re-release or remaster done.

Tracks Available in Video:

Atmos did start out as a format in film, and U2 have taken advantage of the format in some of their own video projects. To date Bono's film Stories of Surrender is available in this format and U2 have upgraded the 2015 Experience + Innocence video to include an Atmos mix in some storefronts now.
